The Austin Police Department is using conversational AI to improve how residents file non-emergency police reports, including reports involving property crime, identity theft, vandalism and harassment. The technology, developed by Versaterm Public Safety, allows residents to communicate with a virtual investigator by phone, text or online, gathering information through an initial investigative interview before the case reaches detectives. By making the reporting process more accessible and capturing more information upfront, the solution is designed to improve the resident experience while helping investigators receive more complete case information sooner.
