THE ROLE​

Versaterm has an immediate opening for a cloud automation and system administration specialist to join their Ottawa office. As part of the Cloud team, you will assist in the day-to-day maintenance and monitoring of Versaterm’s suite of applications deployed in the AWS cloud. You will be adding automation to existing workflows to increase efficiencies and minimize system downtime. You’ll work with the application teams to help them adapt to cloud methodologies. Your duties will primarily involve writing and maintaining Ansible, Packer, and Terraform code, as well as creating shell scripts to help with the application, infrastructure, and cloud service configuration and deployments.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES​

• Ongoing vCloud maintenance, monitoring, and administration

• Periodical patching of Linux operating systems, Versaterm application code, and cloud-based databases within the various vCloud environments

• Maintenance and administration of system and infrastructure automation code using Ansible, Packer, Terraform, and Shell scripts

• Research and development with cloud services. Primarily AWS, but could expand to other cloud providers in the future

• Assist application teams with cloud implementations.

• Implement and manage system and application monitoring dashboards using Prometheus, Grafana, and AWS CloudWatch Metrics

• Ad-hoc system and infrastructure automation as required.

• Configuration and administration of federated identity authentication and brokering using Apache mod_auth_openidc, OIDC and SAML protocols, Azure AD, Auth0

• Availability outside of typical office hours may be required for scheduled system patching or on-call support of cloud assets.

THE ROLE REQUIREMENTS​

• Computer science degree or equivalent

• Software development skills using programming and scripting languages such as Shell scripting, PHP, and Perl. 

• Strong Familiarity with Unix or Linux system administration and troubleshooting.

• Knowledge of automation tools and code using Ansible, Terraform, and Packer is an asset.

• AWS cloud solutions architect experience is an asset.

• Exposure to XML, XSL, JSON, Web Services (REST, WSDL), and other leading-edge inter-system collaboration techniques

• Understanding of client/server applications and experience with WebSocket/socket/HTTP/SSL communications

• Experience working with a variety of Relational DBs such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, IBM IDS (formerly Informix), or other large-scale RDBMS
