Versaterm Public Safety Inc. is looking for a Junior Desktop and Systems Administrator to join our team responsible for maintaining and growing a diverse and dynamic computing and communications environment that includes the desktop and application installations, network infrastructure, VPNs, VOIP, firewalls, and troubleshooting unique issues.

You are required to support and maintain our suite of Microsoft and Apple computers and MS Office suite. Maintain our Linux and Microsoft servers, VMware virtualization, and enterprise system backups/restores. Help and assist Versaterm staff with their computing questions and requests. Experience with SAN technologies, fibre switches, and clustering would be an asset.

You should be capable of planning your work, executing the plan, and testing the components with minimal supervision. Collaborate with our software development and support staff when required to provide them with expert knowledge on operating systems, TCP/IP networks, and virtualization.

Required Education, Skills, and Qualifications


The candidate should have an information technology background, a new graduate from a diploma or degree program or equivalent work experience, and provide examples of the work experience. The candidate should presently reside within the Ottawa area.

Technical skills:

  • Experience with desktop computing, anti-virus software, and user support questions.

  • Experience with VMware virtualization, vSphere, Workstation, and Fusion.

  • Experience with Linux, MS Server, Active Directory, and DHCP.

  • Knowledge of Cisco IOS, VLANs, VOIP, and VPNs.

  • Knowledge of Enterprise Backups and Restores.

  • Knowledge of Storage Area Networks (SAN) and fibre channel setups.

Interpersonal skills:

  • ability to express oneself in clear concise English writing and speaking.
