MOBILE REPORT ENTRY

The Mobile Report Entry software (MRE or field reporting capability) is tightly integrated to the RMS. It uses the same structure, field names, entry techniques, choice tables, help text, etc. to allow comfortable migration between mobile and desktop facilities. In addition, the MRE has cue cards and report categories that are used to prompt the officers and to reflect department policy by offense type as well. Consistency as well as ease of learning and use are critical aspects of any field reporting solution, and Versaterm's is widely used and has been refined and proven over the years.

Many of the report entry selection tables and the report 'templates' are updated over the wireless network at sign-on to simplify mobile management. In addition, the mobile controller always supports two release levels of the MDT and MRE which allows mobile release migration to be done as training and circumstances permit. The MRE supports the following reports/events:

  • Offense/Occurrence reports

  • Supplemental reports (done at the scene by someone other than the primary officer)

  • Follow-up reports (assigned by supervisors)

  • Street Check/field interview 'suspicion' reports

  • Property reports (evidence, stolen, etc.)

  • Accident reports

  • Electronic Tickets (pilot project currently in testing)

It is important to note that license card swipe entry is supported on the mobiles to enter driver's information. In addition, person and other information can be prefilled from an RMS response when the department has had prior contact with the subject.

Report information is transferred by wireless transmission to the RMS transcription queue where it can be:

  • electronically transcribed

  • checked for NIBRS and UCR2

  • linked to master name indices

  • used to update state and national data bases (e.g., for stolen vehicles, property or missing persons)

  • routed for subsequent evaluation, assignment and notification purposes

For most reports, transcription only takes a minute or so to complete, so the information is available to all authorized staff within minutes of the initial investigation. Supervisors can also review these reports from their mobile facilities.
