HANDHELD MOBILE DATA TERMINAL (H/MDT)
The Handheld Mobile Data Terminal (H/MDT) application is a scaled-down version of the MDT application designed specifically for officers who patrol on foot, bikes, boats, snowmobiles, etc. The H/MDT application allows these officers to connect to the police network without using a Notebook PC (as officers in patrol cars use), because Notebook PCs are too heavy and cumbersome to haul around.
The Handheld Mobile Data Terminal (H/MDT) is capable of running on many Java-enabled handheld devices, such as a RIM BlackBerry™, Palm® Treo™, or Motorola Q™.
Although the H/MDT application does not provide the full functionality of the MDT application, it does enable officers to query persons, vehicles, and businesses. From the H/MDT application, officers have access to:
person and vehicle information on LEIP/PIP, CPIC/NCIC, and the RMS
business information on the RMS
mugshots on LEIP/PIP and on the RMS
alias information for persons and businesses
all offense reports, tickets, street checks, and other events related to any queried person, vehicle, or business
Officers are also able to send and receive messages from other H/MDT users and MDT users.
Simple to use and requiring little user training thanks to a clear and intuitive interface design, the H/MDT application allows all officers to truly be part of the police network. Whether on foot patrol, bike patrol, or in a boat, the ability to provide officers with quick and easy access to critical police information from anywhere is an important requirement for many public safety agencies.
